The Second half began as the first one ended, Colm Ryan scoring a brace and Jamie O’ Connor adding another. St. Caimins responded with a goal and a point of their own. Though Hazelwood were dominating, they struggled to shake a dogged St. Caimins off. Colm Ryan scored 4 more points, 2 through frees but St. Caimins responded with a point of their own. Hazelwood finally pulled away with a Jamie O’ Connor wonder goal into the top corner with 2 minutes remaining, this was followed quickly by a last minute goal by raiding centre back Brian Stack, to leave the final score line reading 3-15 to 2-3. Hazelwood Claim U15 Title

Hazelwood College 4-11
Salesian College 3-2

Hazelwood College extended their unbeaten run in Limerick College football to two years in claiming the Justin Herbert cup last Thursday. Both teams deserve great credit for producing a very sporting, entertaining contest despite wintery conditions at Mick Neville park. Hazelwood, aided by quite a strong breeze were quick to settle into the game and had three points on the board within five minutes. Kenny Lynch opened the scoring and the outstanding player on the day, David Boyce powered his way forward to kick a couple of inspirational points. Dromcollogher were dominating possession around the middle third of the pitch with Eamon Carmody, Stephen Long and Lee Foley well on top. Jack Condon and Ed Brennan were proving very effective in the half-forward line, creating further points for Kenny Lynch and David Boyce. Pallaskenry did counterattack to get a point on the board. However they were unable to score a much needed goal thanks to resilient defence from Cian Nash, Eoghan and Jack Shanaghan. Hazelwood really took control of the game ten minutes before the break. Ciaran O’ Sullivan was finally able to evade his marker and scored 1-1 in consecutive attacks. Stephen O’ Brien scored a well-deserved goal just before half time to leave the scoreline 2-8 to 0-1.

Pallaskenry started the second half in very determined fashion and scored two goals in as many minutes. Hazelwood responded well to this setback and found the net themselves following a determined move from David Boyce. The remainder of the match was quite an even contest with sustained attacks by Pallaskenry being repelled by Pat Curtin and Mark Kelly in Hazelwood’s last line of defence. Pallaskenry did score a third goal but Stephen O Brien showed his striking instincts once again to keep the lead a relatively comfortable one. Dromcollogher finished the match with points from Ed Brennan and David Boyce. This followed some good work from Ryan Reidy. Hazelwood overcame Kilfinnane, Rathkeale and Croom in the previous rounds of this competition. The focus now turns to hurling for this team after the Christmas break.
