‘Alone it Stands’

The 3rd Year English class studying John Breen’s ‘Alone it Stands’, the new Specification for Junior Cycle English visited Thomond Park museum and stadium recently with Ms McLoughlin and Ms Ryan. The tour was guided by Rosemary from Thomond Park and Munster Rugby along with rugby legend Gerry Mc Loughlin who featured in the match and in the play.

Alone It Stands is a chaotic, hilarious, heart-warming play that appeals to the students whether or not they have an interest in rugby.

The hilarious play is about Munsters 1978 rugby match against the New Zealand All Blacks.

The main themes in the play are:
1. Community, Family and Friendship
2. Triumph over Adversity

The play has six actors playing 62 roles, from a pregnant woman to a mischievous dog. The dialect is from Limerick, the scenes are frantic often quite short and touch on numerous subplots.

The play uses rugby terms throughout and is steeped in local Limerick jargon!
