Under 16½ Munster Schools Football Win
Under 16½ Munster Schools Football Win
Hazelwood College Under 16½ Munster Schools Football Championship, who emerged decisive winners over Comeragh College, Carrick on Suir, on a score line of 6-11 to 1-3. Hazelwood managed to establish their lead early on, by getting the ball from the backs through the mid-field of Denis Donegan and Seamus Flanagan, and allowed the impressive forwards led by Jack O’Sullivan to secure the vital goals that made the difference in the match. A strong backlash by Comeragh College was contained by the Hazelwood backs, marshalled by Sean Madigan and Brian Buckley, who did so much to frustrate Carrick-on-Suir attempts to narrow the lead Hazelwood worked hard to build. The win sees Hazelwood comfortably secure passage into Round 2 of the Championship. A Healthy Heart is a Happy Heart
A Healthy Heart is a Happy Heart.
Hazelwood College in conjunction with Heartaid are facilitating cardiac screening as part of a health promotion initiative in the school. Both students and staff have been informed of this service which will run over a number of consecutive days. The interest is high and the deadline for booking is the 7th February 2014. This service is extremely convenient as all screenings will take place on site with minimal disruption to pupil and teacher timetabling.
Heartaid screening includes 1) personal & family history questionnaire 2) physical examination with a medical doctor and a 12 lead electrocardiogram (ECG). The medical data & ECG are assessed and reported by a consultant cardiologist.
Ms. Ciara Broderick who is organising this health promotion initiative cannot emphasise enough the importance of availing of this service. “Up to 100 young people die each year in Ireland from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and a recent report published stated that the incidents of SADS are higher in Ireland than many other European countries. Participating in this screening can help to identify cardiac abnormalities and hopefully save a life. This opportunity cannot be missed.”
Hazelwood students and staff prepare for the forthcoming cardiac screening which is going to be carried out by Heartaid in order to prevent Sudden Adult Death Synrome.
