Science Week 2016

Science Week Ireland 2016 was celebrated at Hazelwood College with the eighth Annual Primary Schools’ Science Quiz on Thursday night, November 17th. All local primary schools were invited to attend this exciting event to promote Science Week. It was wonderful to welcome all of the primary school pupils, teachers, parents and friends who attended on the night. During eight rounds of questioning all of the primary pupils thoroughly impressed with their teamwork and knowledge. Spectacular lucky dip spot prizes and tasty, fruity refreshments were very popular among the eager pupils at the half-time break. As the end of the quiz came close, excitement was high as the top three placed teams became apparent. Congratulations to Courtney Boys National School in Newcastle West, who were overall winners, with Broadford National School coming in second place and Ballyagran National School placing third. Thank you and well done to all the teams from Dromcollogher, Tullylease, Monagea, Ballingarry, Milford, Dromina, Ratheena, Feenagh, Mahoonagh and Gaelscoil O Doghair.

SciFest 2016

Hazelwood College students recently attended the SciFest science fair hosted by Limerick Institute of Technology. Here are some photos from the day.

The three students entered their project for SciFest, which is a series of one-day science fairs for second-level students hosted locally in schools and regional level in third level colleges.

Their investigation focused on whether people were influenced by outside factors and whether different age groups would respond differently to a same question. The project won a trophy in the Maths and Science category of the competition.

Hazelwood College Primary School’s Science Quiz celebrates Science Week 2015!

Science Week Ireland 2015 was celebrated at Hazelwood College with the seventh annual Primary School’s Science Quiz on Thursday night, November 12th. All local primary schools were invited to attend this exciting event to promote Science Week. It was wonderful to welcome all of the primary school pupils, teachers, parents and friends who attended on the night. All of the primary pupils thoroughly impressed, with their teamwork and knowledge, during eight rounds of questioning. Surprise lucky dip spot prizes and refreshments were very popular among the eager pupils at the half-time break. As the end of the quiz came to a close, excitement was high as five tiebreaker rounds were battled through in order to find the top three placed teams. Congratulations to Broadford N.S who were overall winners, with Tullylease N.S coming in second place and Courtney Boys N.S in third place. Thank you and well done to all the teams from Broadford, Monagea, Milford, Dromina, Ashford, Dromcollogher, Ballyagran, Raheenagh, Mahoonagh, Feenagh, Granagh, Newtownshandrum and, who took part on the night and we look forward to seeing you next year

Hazelwood College Primary School’s Science Quiz goes ‘round’ West Limerick for Science Week 2014!

Science Week Ireland 2014 was celebrated at Hazelwood College with the sixth annual Primary School’s Science Quiz on Thursday night, November 13th. All local primary schools were invited to attend this exciting event to promote Science Week. 2014 was a record breaking year for the number of tables competing in the quiz, with 42 teams registered to take part on the night. It was wonderful to welcome all of the primary school pupils, teachers, parents and friends who attended on the night. All of the primary pupils thoroughly impressed, with their teamwork and knowledge, during ten rounds of questioning. Spectacular lucky dip spot prizes and refreshments were very popular among the eager pupils at the half-time break. As the end of the quiz came to a close, excitement was high as the top three placed teams became apparent.

Congratulations to Broadford N.S who were overall winners, with Dromina N.S coming in second place and Mahoonagh N.S in third place.
