The Leaving Certificate Applied 2 classes and the Transition Year classess will be finishing their annual toastmasters courses shorthly. The final dates are LCA 30th April and 2nd May for each group.

Hazelwood College defeated Desmond College, Newcastlewest in the Co. Limerick VEC U16 Hurling Final last Tuesday in Dromcollogher. While the ten point win was fully deserved, the game was a hard fought struggle right to the end. The margin of victory reflected Hazelwoods ability to take scores particularly through Jamie Coughlan who was once again excellent.
Newcastlewest opened the scoring and were clearly up for the game leading by two points after ten minutes before Jamie Coughlan steadied the ship with an excellent 70 yard free. Hazelwood then took over scoring seven points on the trot through Jamie Coughlan (twice), John Nix, Padraig Nolan (three times) and Padraig Cunningham. Desmond rallied back with a goal and a point but Hazelwood responded with a goal of their own through Padraig Nolan who at centre-forward was probably the best player on the pitch in the first half. At the half time whistle Hazelwood College were leading by eight points.
The second half was more of the same with both sides putting in 100% effort. However every time Desmond looked like they were closing the gap Hazelwood popped over a free to keep them at bay. Particularly prominent was Jamie Coughlan with four points. Seamus Sheehan scored a lovely goal and John Nix chipped in another two points before the finish. All that was left was the formalities and Jimmy O Sullivan obliged, thanking all those who were involved with the panel over the year.

All Ireland Final Winners
Eight students from Hazelwood College who were part of the Co Limerick VEC Hurling Team to win the All Ireland B Final played in Feenagh against Kerry on Wednesday 28th March 2007. The Hazelwood College traditional music group who are currently producing a CD under the guidance of Mr Dan Sheahan and Ms Gemma Curtin, which will be shortly released in local shops.
Summary of findings from recent Whole School Evaluation Report
The school’s mission statement is lived out in the daily running of the school.
There is a positive atmosphere in the school. Caring for students and providing a safe and secure learning environment are fundamental aims of the school. The school shows very good success in achieving these aims.
A very significant feature of the school is the very high level of voluntary participation by staff in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Without the generous goodwill of teachers the fabric of school life and the extent of its co-curricular and extra-curricular provision would be markedly different.
The board is supportive of the work done by the school staff.
The effective management of students is a very strong feature of the school.
The school facilities are clean, comfortable, in generally good repair and well equipped.
There is a well-developed school development planning process in operation. There is a high level of participation by staff in the school development planning process and very good work has been done in a collaborative and collegial manner.
The school has a history of involvement in curriculum innovation and is seen as responsive to the needs of its students and the local community.
Care for students is a core strength of the school. In particular, care for students in the transition from primary to post-primary school is an important aspect of the school’s work.
The school maintains good communication with parents and has developed good links with the local community.
Classroom management was very good in all lessons observed. Discipline was maintained in all lessons in a positive and secure learning environment.
Students were attentive, motivated, and engaged in their learning.
There is strong awareness of and commitment to students with learning support, language support, and/or special educational needs in Hazelwood College.
The work of the Student Support Team (SST) is of great benefit to students and the school.

Secondary Schools Chess League
