Hazelwood College Debating Teams defeat Askeaton and Killmallock

In the opening round of the County Limerick VEC debating competition Hazelwood College opposed the motion “Sports personalities are no longer ideal role models for the youth of today” and were successful against Askeaton which put them into the semi final. In the semi final Hazelwoods team of captain Edward Lowe, speakers Heather Coffey, Stephan Casey and Triona Kelliher and substitute Marie Sheehan successfully opposed the motion “Irish Society is losing the battle against Irelands crime” against Killmallock. They will now face Castletroy College in the final of the competition.
Meanwhile the schools Concern debating team of Triona Kelliher, Conor O Brien, Patricia Ahern and Anne Hayes with substitute Christopher Brouder had a successful initial encounter against SMI Newcastle West but in a close match against Mercy Mount Hawk Tralee were unlucky to be defeated. They are still in the competition and have qualified for the second round.
