Hazelwood Triumph over Rathkeale in Senior County Limerick VEC Colleges’ Final
On May 15th, Hazelwood College Senior Camogie team faced the stiff challenge provided by Rathkeale. The team, led by Aideen O’Flynn, started strongly, helped by a brace of goals by Becky Ryan and a combined six points by Katie Dillane and Aideen O’Flynn. By the end of the first half Hazelwood were 2-7 to 1-1, a score line that does not reflect the challenge posed by Rathkeale.
Rathkeale, helped by the breeze in the second half launched a stern defence and fight back, but could not overcome the strong defence marshalled by Tara Fitzgibbon and Grainne Sheehy. Thanks to the experienced heads on the team, further points were added to keep a safe distance between the teams. Further points by Becky Ryan, Katie Coughlan, Donna Mulcahy, combined with a leading performance by Aideen O’Flynn ensured that at the end Hazelwood were on the right side of a 3-12 to 2-3 score line.
