On Monday May 12th, a determined Hazelwood College side set out to win their first ever County A Colleges Junior Final Vs Laurel Hill. Our girls were prepared to play against a very strong team and knew they had a tough fight on their hands. It was a bitterly cold day. As the match went on the girls played through blustery conditions and rainfall. By half time, with a strong breeze at our backs, Hazelwood College was up 2.3 to 5 points with scores from Donna Mulcahy, Cliona O Callaghan and Grainne Fitzgibbon.
Laurel Hill put great pressure on our girls in the second half but could never get the upper hand on our great defensive side and with some outstanding saves by our goalie Rebecca Duggan they didn’t get too many chances of taking advantage of the strong breeze. Our girls were busy defending in the second half with our only score of the half coming from Katie Coughlan in the closing moments of the game. Each of the Hazelwood team dug deep and, despite the serious pressure exerted by Laurel Hill, they came away with the victory winning by 3.3 to 0.8. It was a great victory and well done to all the Hazelwood College Girls.
