Students in County Limerick have been awarded third level scholarships as part of a new €30 million scheme sponsored by JP McManus, at an awards ceremony last Saturday in the University Concert Hall.  Declan Mills from Castletroy College and Sarah Curtin from Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher, were among the 118 recipients from all over Ireland.  The scheme will provide financial assistance to many top performing students who completed their Leaving Certificate in 2008 and students were presented with certificates by the Minister for Education & Science, Batt O’Keeffe

Mr.McManus has contributed €30 million to fund the provision of these scholarships each year and it is estimated that over 1,300 students from the 32 counties will benefit from the scheme over its duration.

Scholarships are awarded to the top performing students in each county who attend any recognised non fee-paying post-primary school and is subject to a means test. A minimum of two scholarships are offered in each county.

Mr McManus said that he “would like to congratulate the 2008 winners for their tremendous hard work and achievement”.
