Castlemahon native and past Hazelwood College student Darren Roche has been turning the traditional music world on its head with his colleagues in the band MOXIE. Moxie formed in late 2011 between Cillian Doheny, Jos Kelly, Darren Roche, Ted Kelly and Paddy Hazleton and are now busy taking over the rest of Europe. Their music has a solid traditional backbone, inspired and shaped by the surrounding of the west of Ireland, but with progressive, world and jazz influences creeping into their music it makes for a truly heady and distinctive sound, putting them at the forefront of new acoustic music from Ireland. In August 2014 they released their debut album ‘Planted’ to critical acclaim. With their unmistakable approach, MOXIE are becoming a festival favourite in Europe, America and beyond garnering a reputation for their highly charged live performances.
Prodijig won Sky’s “Got to Dance” competion in March of 2012. Their unique blend of hip hop, tap, flamenco and drill with Irish dance quickly captured the attention of viewers and judges alike. During their first round in the show the troupe showcased their new style to Kanye West’s hit song “Power.” Judge Adam Garcia correctly predicted then that the group could win the whole competition. Prodijig’s seven members include former “Riverdance” leads as well as regional, national, and world championship dancers. Kenefick is the dance crew’s leader and choreographer.
Now Moxie and Prodijig have joined together to create The Revolution, which will feature on The Late Late Show on RTE tomorrow night Friday 27th May
