History Visit to Cahir Castle

3rd Year History students recently visited Cahir Castle as part of their studies for the Junior Certificate. Cahir Castle is one of the largest castles in Ireland, sited on an island in the river Suir. It was built in 1142 by Conor O’Brien, Prince of Thomond. It is situated in what is now Cahir town centre

Open Night/Day for New Students 2014/15

An Information evening and Open Night for incoming students for Septembers 2014 and 2015 will take place in the school on Tuesday 15th October.

Details on the new Junior Certificate Curriculum which will begin in Hazelwood College from September 2014 will be given.

Classroom displays, projects, experiments etc. will be on display on the night.

Principals address begins at 7.30pm

The Annual Open Day visit for primary schools will take place on Wednesday 16th from 10am-1pm. Students from fifth and sixth primary schools are welcome to attend and take a tour of the school with a Transition Year guide. Students will get the opportunity to see the school classrooms in action, science experiments, music and trad sessions, history re-enactments etc.

More First Years at Cappanalea

First year students accompanied by their Transition Year mentors recently completed two three day bonding sessions at Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre. While at the centre students participated in a number of activities including: Hillwalking, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Orienteering, and a number of Team Building Activities including a new activity for Hazelwood College, Blind Orienteering, in which blind folded teams of six had to navigate an obstacle course in the dark. The group with the largest volume remaining in a cup held by one of the team members at the end was the winning team
