Hazelwood Snatch Dramatic draw

Hazelwood College (Dromcollogher) 0-14
St. John The Baptist (Hospital) 3-05

Both teams left Dromcollogher regretting chances missed but relieved to have another opportunity of qualifying for the Limerick Schools Senior “A” hurling final. The game looked to have slipped away from Hazelwood but two injury time points from Jerry Lane were enough to earn them another chance in a game that has been fixed for Hospital at 12:30 on Wednesday, November 17th.
Hazelwood had started the brighter of the two teams and scored five points without reply in the opening fifteen minutes. Jerry Lane and Kevin Quaid scored two each, while Shane Carroll popped over the other. This period of Hazelwood dominance was shattered in a two minute spell, where Hospital scored 1-1, so despite having the majority of play in the first 17 minutes Hazelwood only lead by one point. It was now Hospital’s time to dominate, which they did until half-time adding a second goal. Hazelwood managed only one more point before half-time through Jerry lane. So at half time the score-line read 0-6 to 2-1 in favour of Hospital.
The second half was a real ding-dong affair. Michael Fitzgibbon, now operating at full-forward, opened Hazelwood’s account in the second half bringing the game level again. Hospital immediately replied before Jerry lane pointed a free to bring the sides level once more. Hospital once again replied through a free to keep their noses in front. Hazelwood scored three points in three minutes through Damian Lacey, Kevin Quaid and Jerry lane who struck a penalty over the bar to push themselves into a two point lead with ten minutes remaining. It was then that Hospital struck for their 3rd goal putting them back into a one point lead. The game was far from over yet. Daniel Collins, on as a sub, scored a levelling point with five minutes to go. The momentum then swung back to hospital with two points, this meant that Hazelwood were now two points down heading into injury time. Jerry lane added another two to his total and Hazelwood breathed a sigh of relief. Both teams will hope to improve dramatically as the winners face Ard Scoil Ris in the final.
