All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final Match Report

Hazelwood Colleges Senior Hurling Team was victorious over Duiske-Grennan College of Thomastown in last Sunday’s All Ireland Hurling Final. Peter Irwin of Milford led his team to Emily in Co. Limerick for what was to be an immense 60 minutes of hurling. After the first minute however and an early score from Dane Managn of Thomastown, Hazelwood College were down a goal. Jamie Coughlan tried to close the gap scoring a point after the early goal. This was followed by Henry O’ Gorman of Milford scoring another point in the fourth minute. Jamie Coughlan came back again scoring two more points in the seventh and ninth minute of the game. Bringing Hazelwood College into the lead for the first time in the match. Captain Peter Irwin and full forward Darren Lane scoring two more points in the eleventh and sixteenth minute. Hazelwood College widening the gap after sixteen minutes to three points. There was no stopping Jamie Coughlan coming again in the twenty first minute scoring another point. Back for a second score was Henry O’ Gorman in the twenty second minute scoring another point. Jamie Coughlan finished the first half scoring a point and a goal in the twenty fifth minute, followed by two more points in the twenty seventh and twenty eight minute of the match. Finishing up at half Hazelwood College two goals and ten points. Duiske-Grennan one goal and two points. Back into the second half of the game and within the first minute the Kilkenny forwards line conceded a point this time to Henry O’ Gorman. This was followed by Padraig Nolan in the tenth minute if the game scoring a great goal for the Hazelwood side. Bringing the score now Hazelwood College four goals and ten points. Thomastown, Kilkenny one goal and three points. Back again was Jamie Coughlan scoring two more points in the fifteenth and eighteenth minute. Thomastown, Kilkenny kept the pressure on the Limerick side scoring six points and a goal in the first twenty minutes of the game. Hazelwood College got no more scores in the second half but the Kilkenny side tried to close the gap scoring two more points in the twenty fourth and twenty ninth minute of the game. However despite these late scores it was not to be there day. Hazelwood College being the victors. A score finishing up in Emily Hazelwood College four goals and thirteen points, Duiske-Grennan College two goals and nine points.
