Hazelwood College into Munster Hurling Vocational Schools Semi-Final

Hazelwood College into Munster Hurling Vocational Schools Semi-Final

Hazelwood College                4-12

Killenaule                                1-3

Hazelwood College beat Killenaule in Lattin last Thursday in the Munster Senior hurling Vocational Quarter. In the last 5 minutes as Henry o’Gorman, Micheal Brosnan and the two Jamie Coughlans (little and large) each chipped over a point it may have looked easy for Hazelwood but the game was in fact a hard fought, tense affair especially for the first 40 minutes. Jamie Coughlan opened the scoring for Hazelwood with a free in the third minute but Killenaule quickly replied through their Tipp minor full forward scoring 1-1 in a two minute burst. Henry o’Gorman pulled Hazelwood back level scoring an excellent goal after bursting through on a solo-run from midfield. Killenaule chipped over another point to retake the lead but Jamie coughlan quickly pointed another free to level matters again. The next ten minutes was the hardest fought period of the game with neither side scoring but Hazelwood College were slowly beginning to dominate the middle third of the field while the full back line had got to grips on their direct opponents. With 5 minutes left in the half Jamie Coughlan pointed a 65 to put Hazelwood into a lead that they would not relinquish. Seamus Sheehan rocketed the ball to the back of the net shortly afterwards to leave the score at half-time 2-3 to 1-2, in favour of Hazelwood who were playing with the wind. In the second half however, Hazelwood with a higher work-rate totally dominated despite the breeze. Jamie Coughlan Scored 2-1, Peter Irwin scored twice, Henry o’Gorman and “big” Jamie Coughlan, who had been introduced as a sub, each scored a point before Killenaule scored their solitary point of the second half. Hazelwood once again took over to finish the match strongly. Next up for the senior hurlers is the Semi-final v Carrick-on-Suir , where hopefully we can follow up on our quarter final win
