Hazelwood College first year Hurlers continue on the road to the Munster title

Hazelwood College first year hurlers continued their winning ways this week with a crushing defeat over Nenagh in Rathkeale. Captained by Jamie Coughlan the boys dominated throughout the game leaving the opposition with little chance of adding to their scores. Early in the game Nenagh made a few attempts at staying in contention but the powerful Drom side broke away and Nenagh failed to score in the second half.Best for Hazelwood were Peter Irwin (2-8), Peter Kirwin ( 2-9) Jamie Coughlan (1-4) Tadgh O Flynn ( 0-1) Michael Brosnan (1-1) Patrick O Regan and Padraig Nolan. The team will now go on to meet Cahir in the Munster Semi-Final next week. The final score was Hazelwood 7-21 to Nenagh 1-2.

Congratulations to all the girls on the Senior Camogie team who were victorious over
Desmond College, NCW in the Senior County Final recently. From the throw in Hazelwood were out to win, determined to be champions. Their will to win was increased following an early goal in the first ten minutes of play. At half time Hazelwood were leading by two goals and three points. Desmond fought hard in the second half but this wasn’t enough to stop the Hazelwood girls who were going home with the cup. The final score was Hazelwood College 4:4 to Desmond Colleges 0:3.

Great Results for Hazelwood College in the ‘Artists for Tara’ Competition

Great Results for Hazelwood College in the ‘Artists for Tara’ Competition

Two Hazelwood College Students were prizewinners in the Artists for Tara Competition which was held recently. This was a nationwide competition whereby students were asked to create paintings or write poems and stories in response to the proposed motorway through the Hill of Tara. Triona Sheehy, a second year student was a prizewinner in the artistic section. As a result her work was exhibited from the 11th to the 13th of March at the Artists for Tara Exhibition in Temple Bar, Dublin. Another second year student Marion Browne was highly commended in the writing section of the competition.

Ballincollig : 2-3

Hazelwood College Junior Camogie team continued their unbeaten spell on Friday last as they took on Ballincollig in the Munster Semi-Final. The girls were confident following their defeat of Nagle Rice, Doneraile and set out in good conditions, eager to secure a place in this years Munster Final. The Hazelwood girls, captained by Clodagh Reidy, were quick to settle and began to dominate the match from early on with some powerful play. Good team work meant that the Dromcollogher side were well ahead at the half-time whistle. However a determined Ballincollig fought back in the second half. Hazelwood fought hard to maintain their lead. Solid defense and good scoring meant that the Baliincollig effort posed no real threat. Hazelwood ran out deserved winners at the final whistle. Scorers for Hazelwood were Clodagh Reidy (2-1), Siobhan Enright (1-1) and Joanne O Gorman (0-1).

Success for Hazelwood College in the County VEC Handball Competition

Pictured are the Hazelwood College Handball Team who enjoyed great success in the County VEC Handball Championships held recently. Pat Quaid was the winner of the Under 18 Singles, CJ Fitzpatrick won the U16 singles and also picked up gold in the doubles event when teamed up with Padraic O Shea. Darren Sweeney and Timmy O Carroll were the winners of the U14 doubles competition. The boys will now go on the represent the school at Munster level.
