Hazelwood College 4-9
Desmond College 1-5
The Hazelwood under 18’s finished their year on a high note with a good win
over Desmond College in the Limerick Vocational Schools hurling final on
Monday last.
Michael Boyce opened the scoring with a massive point from midfield within two minutes. Hazelwood then withstood a strong period of pressure and were 3 points to 2 down with ten minutes to go in the first half. It was then the game swung in our favour with two great goals from Jimmy O’ Sullivan and Henry O’ Gorman. In the second half, with the aid of the breeze, we were never in danger. Despite a late comeback by Desmond College, we were always comfortable, thanks to two late goals from Jimmy O’ Sullivan and the prolific Benji Sheehy among others.

Senior Camogie
On Monday we played Rathkeale who challenged us all through the first half of our game. At half time we were in the lead by only one point. We knew we needed the first score to get in top in the second half. This was delivered by Laura Coleman who scored the first goal for Hazelwood. This was followed closely by a cracker of a goal from Mary O’ Gorman and then there was no stopping the rest of the team who together delivered 5 points. Our Goalie saved not only the day but many shots which ended the game at Hazelwood 2:5 to 2 points to Rathkeale.
Thursday showed not only a beautiful day in the sky but a beautiful day on the pitch for Hazelwood college camogie team. Up against Croom, it wasn’t going to be easy and the first half reflected that. Hazelwood were down by a goal at half time but struggled to get possession in the first half and Croom really shone in their performance. From the beginning of the second half Hazelwood took control of the game and early goal from Sinead Kiely picked up their spirit. There was no turning back after that and Hazelwood came out on top with a second goal from Mairead Geary and a third from Mary O’ Gorman. The defence played exceptionally well in the second half and Croom only managed to score one point. Again excellent saves from Mary Galvin who was well protected by full back Sarah Curtin. Who alongside Niamh O’ Brien and Emma Brown defended well? The remainder of the scores came from Joanne O’ Gorman who also had a great game. Well done to Hazelwood senior camogie team
The team was as follows:
