Hazelwood College: 2-12
Clonakilty: 2-5
Hazelwood College won the first round or the the Munster Vocational Schools championship by 7 points in Mallow last week. It proved to be an exciting game with good hurling from both sides despite strong winds playing havoc with the shooting. For Hazelwood College the first half was all about Jamie Coughlan who scored all of the Dromcollogher sides seveen points. Unfortunatley the combination of conceeding a goal before half time and poor shooting meant that Hazelwood were only two points up at the half time whistle. The second half was all about holding out against a strong Clonakilty assault. Goals by Jamie Coughlan and Seamus Sheehan followed by a well taken point by Padraig Nolan gave Hazelwood a comfortable lead at the end. Best for Hazelwood were Jamie Coughlan, Jimmy O Sullivan, Gavin Keane and Patrick O Regan.

Hazelwood College will have to face Rathkeale again in the 1st year Football County VEC Final for the 2005/06 season. The boys from Dromcollogher are lucky to be still in with a chance of the County and Munster double after being outplayed for long periods of the game.
Rathkeale began brightly scoring the opening point followed by further points from frees pushing them into a 4-1 point lead after 10 minutes. However, Kevin Noonan from Hazelwood shot an excellent point to add to Hazelwoods account. Rathkeale were still winning possession around mid-field and kept the Hazelwood backs under pressure. Rathkeale notched up two goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half to lead 2-4 to 0-3 at the break.
Hazelwood showed more urgency at the start of the second half and got themselves back into contention with a goal from Keith Lacey. Rathkeale responded with a goal and restored their 7point advantage. Luckily for Hazelwood this goal was the catalyst for players such as John Barrett and Michael Nolan to stand up and be counted. The comeback started with an expertly taken penalty by John Barrett. Hazelwood tagged on another 3 points to Rathkeales 1 to to reduce the defecit to 2. Then on the verge of injury time Barry Bresnihan kept his composure , rounded the goal keeper and scored a goal. Hazelwood now led by a point. Rathkeale tied up the game with only seconds remaining. Best for Hazelwood on the day were; Brian Noonan, Michael Nolan and Patrick Finn who was playing his first match with the team.

In an effort to reduce the weight of school bags on pupils the school is purchasing a second set of school books so every student will have a copy of their text book both in school and at home. The result of this is students will only need to carry the copy books they need home at night
