Hazelwood Colleges Art Students gets set to strut their stuff in the Junk Kouture Fashion Show

Pictured are the Hazelwood College entries to this years ‘Junk Kouture’ Recycled Fashion show. In this competition students are challenged to create wearable art and outrageous outfits in Junk Kouture style. They have to take recycled materials and turn them in to high end couture fashion.

Costume 1: Model Rachel Heffernan wearing the costume called ‘the Ghost Bride’. This costume was made by Hazelwood Colleges second year art students Selina Kiely, Lara Grufferty and Rachel. The dress is made completely out of recycled newspaper, the majority of which is the Weekly Observer and the Vale Star

Costume 2: Model Aoife O’Mullane models the costume made by second year art students Ella Grufferty, Allanah Mathews and Aoife. This cutting edge outfit is made entirely out of paper maché, paper and plastic bags.

Costume 3: Model Grace Morey models this ‘Lady Gaga’ inspired dress made by second year art students Chloe O’Connell and Catherine Corbett and Grace. They made this fantastic outfit out of Chicken Wire, cardboard, crêpe paper and coke can tops.

Costume 4: Hazelwood College Transition Year students, Niamh O’ Leary, Triona Dunleavy and Katherine McCarthy with their design for the Junk Kouture competition. The dress is made from hula hoops, chicken wire newspaper insulation pipes and chains.

Hazelwood College Basketball News

Hazelwood College Basketball (1st/2nd Years)

The season is drawing to a close for the first and second year girls basketballers in Hazelwood College. The first year team have had great success to date boasting three wins out of three pool games. They will now go through to the semi-final of the Limerick Schoolgirls League next month.

The second year team have had mixed results with one great win over Coláiste Mhuire Askeaton and two losses in hard fought matches. This team will wait in hope to see if they will qualify for the play-offs in the next couple of weeks.

Great credit is due to both teams of girls for their hard work and enthusiasm in the pool stages. We wish them the best of luck and hope to see just reward at the end of the season in March of this year.

Hazelwood launches new F1 Teams

Hazelwood launches new F1 Teams

Imagine building a 1/20th-scale F1 racing car capable of travelling at over 110km/hr – using advanced 3D design software, automated manufacturing technology. It may sound like a new hi-tech company is opening for business, but it is the latest undertaking of a group of students from Hazelwood College in Dromcollogher. Two teams representing the school have recently qualified for the regional finals by submitting their plans for a scale F1 race car. They now have just 3 months to design, test and build their cars before racing against other teams from around the country. With cars travelling at speeds exceeding 110Km/hr the competition is sure to be tight.

F1 in Schools is a unique technology challenge that enables second-level students to get their hands on the latest technology from the worlds of engineering and manufacturing, and with much emphasis in the competition being placed on design, public relations and over-all business plan, the teams need to be expert in many diverse areas. The first area, and probably one of the toughest, is the selling of advertising space on the cars and upcoming websites, so if any companies out there wish to get involved, you can contact the teams through the school, just ask for Thor Racing or the Hazelwood Hellracers
