Colaiste Iosaef (Kilmallock) 1-11

Kilmallock snatched an injury time victory in the Limerick B schools hurling final in a sunny Ballyagran with a goal 3 minutes into injury time to turn a two point deficit into a one point victory. Hazelwood had the better of the earlier exchanges scoring two quick points through Jamie Butler and David O’Donnell before Kilmallock responded with one of their own. Jerry Lane pointed a first of many frees to leave Hazelwood leading by 3 points to 1 after five minutes. Kilmallock enjoyed a period of dominance for the next 15 minutes scoring three unanswered points to put them leading 4 points to 3, twenty minutes in. the last 10 minutes were tit-for tat. Killmallock bettering Jerry lane’s 3 frees with four points of their own to leave the score at half time – Colaiste Iosaef 0-8, Hazelwood College 0-6. The second half started as the first finished with both sides trading points, Jerry lane with one from play as well as a placed ball matching Colaiste Iosaef’s two scores. It was now however Hazelwood’s time to dominate. Kilmallock managed only one score in the next 25 minutes of play. Hazelwood scored 5, however they were largely restricted to scores from placed balls, Jerry Lane scoring 3 frees and a 65 with Shane Carroll the only score from play, by the Colaiste Iosaef defence. So Hazelwood lead by 2 points 3 minutes into injury time when Kilmallock pounced with the winner leaving no time to get back up the field and score. It was a heart-breaking defeat leaving Hazelwood to think of a season which had been close at both Munster and County level but had resulted in no silverware.
