Ecology Course – Killarney

On Wednesday 21st September 3rd Years travvelled to Killarney Co. Kerry to take part ion a ecology course.

The courses are closely based around the curriculum and are designed to allow the student to practice a variety of field techniques and to illustrate key concepts of ecology.

Junior Certificate Ecology Day* – We use several different fieldwork techniques to examine a woodland habitat and the associated flora and fauna. In doing so, core concepts of ecology are introduced and illustrated. A typical day will include the use of quadrats, transects, pooters, beating trays, Longworth small mammal traps, measurement of environmental factors etc..

National Universities of Ireland

A speaker representing the National Universities of Ireland ( NUI Cork, Galway and Dublin ) will visit the school on the 3rd October to speak to Leaving Certificate 2 students about courses on offer in these colleges and their entry requirements.

Study Seminar

The 3rd years will attend an all day Study Seminar in the school to teach them study techniques in preperation for thier exmas this year.

Higher Options Conference

The Leaving Certificate 2 class went to the higher Options Conference in the RDS Dublin on Wednesday 21st to meet colleges, employers etc, to examine potential options for next year.

Top Marks for Hazelwood College Junior Cert Students

On Wednesday last students at Hazelwood College Dromcollogher received their Junior Cert Results. There was great excitement in the school as the results were outstanding especially those of Niamh Cronin who was awarded 10 As in higher level subject and Una O Sullivan who was awarded 9As.

Picture 1 shows Hazelwood College students Una O Sullivan, Bryan O Regan and Niamh Cronin with year head Mrs Dolan after receiving their outstanding results. These three students were awarded a total of 26 A grades in higher level subjects.

Picture 2 shows Niamh Cronin ringing home with the great news that she received 10 As in higher level subjects in this years Junior Cert Exam.

Safe Pass Course

On Monday 19th September students from Leaving Certificate Applied 1, Transition Year and Leaving Certificate Applied 2 who require Safe Passes for their Work Experience modules will take the nessecary Safe Pass Course allowing them to work in the construction Industry in Ireland.

The training modules incorporated within the safe pass programme are:

– The reasons for promoting safety
– Health and Safety at Work Legislation
– Accident reporting & Emergency procedures
– Accident prevention
– Health and Hygiene
– Manual Handling
– Working at heights
– Working with Electricity, underground and overhead services
– Use of hand held equipment
– Safe use of vehicles
– Noise and vibrations
– Excavations and Confined Spaces

School Mass

Monday 19th September at 12.00 we will be having our annual ‘Back to School’ Mass to celebrate the beginning of the School Year
