Security breach notification form cookie

Novelist Visits School

Annual Retreat

The annual reatreats will take place in the school on the 30th and 31st January.

The retreat will be for 3rd Years on the 30th January and for Leaving Certificate 2 and Leaving Certificate Applied 2 Classes on the 31st January

Third Year DAT Testing

The annual Differntial Apptitude Testing (DAT) of the school’s Third Years will take place on Friday 27th January. The results of these tests are a great aid to the guidnace counselling staff in helping students pick subjects and courses appropiate to them for the Leaving Certificate and their future careers

Novelist Eugene Mc Cabe to visit school

Novelist Eugene Mc Cabe will visit the school on Friday 27th January to speak with Senior students.

Eugene McCabe was born in Glasgow in 1930 but
Eugene McCabe was born in Glasgow in July 1930 of Irish parents he has spent most of his life in Ireland. For decades he farmed with his family near Clones on the Monaghan/Fermanagh border where he still lives.
His published plays for stage include King of the Castle (Dublin, The Gallery Press/Newark, Proscenium, 1978); and his one-act plays Pull Down a Horseman/Gale Day (Dublin, Gallery, 1979). His plays for TV include Roma (Dublin, Turoe & RTÉ, 1979); and his trilogy Victims,which consists of Cancer, Heritage, and Siege. Cancer won the Writers Award in Prague, and second prize in the Prix Italia. His short fiction includes the novella and stories Victims: A Tale from Fermanagh (London, Gollancz/Cork, Mercier, 1976); Heritage and Other Stories (Gollancz, 1978); Christ in the Fields, A Fermanagh Trilogy (London, Minerva, 1993); Tales from the Poor House (Oldcastle, The Gallery Press, 1999); and Heaven Lies About Us (London, Cape, 2005).

Hazelwood Colleges Young Scientists Win at this years Exhibition

This year Hazelwood College retained the ENFO Award at the Young Scientist Exhibition with Transition Year students Jack Long, David Harrold and John Ryan conducted an investigation into the use of chicken litter as a renewable energy source. Last years winners of the ENFO award Fifth Year students Mary Ennis and Billy Fehin (missing from photo) where highly commended for their research. This year they made a comparative study of Miscanthus and Rape Seed Oil in which they analysed their chemical properties and financial advantages and disadvantages. The schools third project recieved high praise from the judging committee this third project was the work of Emma Cronin and Colm Meaney who studied the reasons why Ragwort affects horses and investigated ways in which it can be controlled.

Macbeth

The 5th Year Leaving Certifiacte English class will travel to see a preformance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth on Tuesday 17th January

Leaving Certificate Applied visit to Clarion Hotel Limerick

Leaving Certificate Applied Hotel and Catering classes will visit the Clarion Hotel Limerick on Monday 23th January. Will there they will get a chance to learn abou the differnt roles people play in the running of such a large hotel and visit areas such as the kitchens that the general public would not normally see.

French Theatre

French Theatre for Schools Group’ who are based in Dublin are visiting to school on Monday 16th January. They will perform two shows which are an hour and a half long each. They are performed entirely in French. In days coming up to the play all students of french study the text of the play. The play will be performed twice on the day once to Junior classes and once to the senior classes. Some students are selected to take part in the play with spoken roles – giving them a chance to practice their French in front of an audience.
This is the fourth year of the group visiting the school. In the past students have found the performance extremely enjoyable.It is also great preparation for their exams and gives the students a chance to meet with French people and to practice their French on them.
