Geography Investigation 2022
Thanks to Ciara Ahern for this fantastic report on the Leaving Cert Geography trip
*Geography Investigation 2022*
For our Leaving Certificate Geography Field trip, we went to Creg beach Lahinch Co. Clare. This investigation/project is worth 20% in our Leaving Certificate Examination.
We left school at 7:30am in the morning, carrying our backpacks, raincoats and wellies with us in preparation for all types of weather. Mr. Noonan and Ms. Quaid accompanied us. The bus journey to Liscannor Bay was approximately 1 hour and 45minutes arriving at Lanich around 9:15am.
Firstly, we bought ourselves some coffee, to keep warm and fuel up for the day ahead. We travelled down to Creg beach where we calculated the slope of the beach, identified cusps and berms measured and sketched them. We measured beach materials size, observed longshore drift on the river Moy as it entered the sea. Recorded the wind speed, wind direction, wave type and frequency of waves over a minute.
We used apparatus such as the vernier callipers, anemometer, clinometer and a compass in which we recorded the results for each task into our work sheets.
Overall, the weather remained pleasant, and we all had great fun. Our guide Jess was extremely helpful with our group and clearly instructed what we had to do on the day. We applied our knowledge from class and conducted the experiments as a team.

Preparations are in full swing for Celebrating Us 2022. We are delighted to have the Irish Heart Mobile Health Unit available to us on the day from 9am to 3.45pm on Monday 10th October and would encourage anyone in the area to avail of this free check.
