Sixth Year Music News

Hazelwood College class are pictured with Stuart O’Sullivan, one of Ireland’s most famous pianists, after a concert they attended at St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, which was conducted by Peter Barley. The concert and talk on Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A Major will be beneficial to the students, as the piece is on their Leaving Certificate curriculum. A performance such as this is invaluable to the students understanding of a complex piece and all agreed that it was a beneficial day out!

Also well done to past student Darren Roche and his group Moxie on last nights headline performance with Stocktons Wing on Fleadh TV.

If you missed Saturday nights coverage here is the performance of Moxie live on Fleadh TV with Stockton’s Wing. Footage starts at 2:03:00

Bright Future Ahead

Over the years Hazelwood College’s music students have achieved some exceptionally high standards, from recording albums like Ella Marie O’Dwyer, Marie Ide DeBhal appearing on national live T.V. and Darren Roches attempts to gain global domination of the traditional music scene with his band Moxie.

However with all their success none have achieved in such a short timeframe as Kayleigh O’Brien has.

Only last week Kayleigh posted two songs on Youtube for the first time. By Thursday her original song “Bad Religion” had featured on ULFM the University of Limerick Student Radio and on Sunday her cover of Bob Dylan’s “One More Cup of Coffee” was being broadcast on Today FM.

No doubt we will hear and read much more about Kayleigh in the near future if this first week is any measure of success.

***Update 6/5/15: Since posting about Kayleigh’s success, Today FM continued to feature her work. Her original song featured as ‘up and coming artist of the week’ on “The Mix Up” with Colm O’Sullivan. Red FM also has featured Kayleigh’s songs***
