Hazelwood Camogie Stars Shine in Two Counties
Hazelwood Camogie Stars Shine in Two Counties
The Hazelwood College Junior camogie team impressed with two very good victories to progress into two different county finals. They are now in the Junior Cork Colleges Competition and the Junior Limerick Colleges Competition. The Hazelwood girls progressed to the Junior Cork Colleges Competition on Thursday 28th of February with a very impressive victory over Bandon in the school pitch. The Hazelwood girls were in control of this game from the very first whistle and dominated throughout the game. The move of Cliona O’ Callaghan from midfield into full forward, due to illness, started the Hazelwood girls scoring spree. This move paid off for the Hazelwood team as she scored her first goal straight away, one of the eight goals that she scored throughout the game. Bandon could only manage one score in the whole game which was a goal that came in the middle of the second half. Hazelwood continued to dominate and they were the deserving winners on the scoreline of 8-10 to 1-00.
Also on Tuesday the 12th of March last, the Junior Camogie team progressed to the Junior Limerick Colleges final. They faced Newport on a bitterly cold day in Newport. Once again the Hazelwood girls started to rule this game from the very start. They took their scores well and started to build up a considerable lead. After the half time break, Newport started to fight back with some scores of their own. The Hazelwood backs withheld the pressure and only conceded one goal. The Hazelwood forwards continued to score and apply pressure on the Newport backs. The game ended with Hazelwood winning out on the scoreline of 6-07 to 1-03. They now progress to the two finals in the respective competitions.
