Junior Certificate Results 2013

Junior Certificate Results 2013

Our students really performed amazingly this year. They really did their parents and the staff of Hazelwood College proud. While they have dispersed onto different paths, some going to Leaving Certificate Applied, and to Transition Year as well as those who went directly into fifth year, they all have a firm Junior Certificate foundation to work from.

Here are some photographs from the day, more details to follow in later posts.

Limerick Minor Hurlers

Hazelwood’s Limerick Minor Hurlers

After a summer of historic hurling highs, which memorably included ending the twenty-five year wait for Munster Minor honours, Hazelwood College students and Limerick Minor Hurling heroes Jamie Butler, Sean Flanagan and Seamus Flanagan returned to school. Off field, Jamie and Sean face an equally memorable year as they strive to match the success on the field this summer with similar success in next year’s Leaving Certificate exam hall. They can be assured that the support evident this summer in Semple Stadium will be echoed, if not as loud, in Hazelwood College as they return to their studies. Currently, Sean plans to pursue studies for a Bachelor of Education in Mary Immaculate College next year, while Jaime plans to study Electronic Engineering in University of Limerick and Seamus looks forward to receiving his Junior Certificate results shortly. Also on the Limerick Minor Hurling Team was Hazelwood College graduate, Damian Lacey, who recently received his Leaving Certificate results and has gained admission to study Business, Sports and Recreation in CIT. Best of luck to all from the staff and students of Hazelwood College.

Transition Year @ Ballyhass

Transition Year @ Ballyhass

tyballyhas2013

Hazelwood College Transition Year students participated on an induction programme at the Ballyhass Lakes Activity Centre. Students participated in a series of physical challenges in order to build bonds and to prepare them for the unique challenges and learning environment offered by Transition Year. The programme is designed to instil individual confidence and independence, while strengthening the group’s identity and awareness. The development of both the individual and group confidence are key in the TYP, where students are encouraged to become self-directed and autonomous learners, able to work collectively and individually on practical and academic challenges, without the pressure of state exams.

Hazelwood College welcomed its new students last week. Among those greeted by Deputy Principal Ms Elizabeth Dolan (far left) were ‘terrific twins’ from left to right Abby and Liam McDermott and Ciara and Brendan O’Flynn. Abby and Liam are following in the footsteps of their brothers John and James. who face a busy year in preparing for the Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate respectively. Ciara and Brendan are also following in the footsteps of their sister Sarah, who similarly faces a busy year as she enters sixth year, and their brother Micheál, who received excellent Leaving Certificate results last month

Over 45% of the Leaving Certificate Class achieved points in excess of 400 in this years examinations reflecting the hard work put in by both the students and their teachers over the past number of years.

New! Healthy Food Service

New! Healthy Food Service

SchoolFood
Hazelwood College are delighted to announce that we will have a new food service for the coming year.

We have selected The School Food Company to be our new food service provider. The School Food Company was set up to improve access to healthy food in schools. They operate canteens in over six sites across Clare and Limerick.

Major renovations have been undertaken over the summer months and we are delighted to have modern kitchens and service facilities operating on site. The new canteen will be open to students from August 27th and from now on the students will be able to benefit from a wide variety of freshly prepared meals and snacks.

The new canteens will be open for breakfast, small break, lunch, and for students attending afterschool study.

Special Dietary Requirements
We are delighted to cater to children with special dietary requirements. Please contact the school and they will put you in touch with Ken or Mark. Alternatively you may email us and we will get in touch with you.
