Rescheduling of Christmas Examinations

All students will return to school on Monday 10th January 2011.

Christmas examinations which were scheduled for Monday 20th of December will take place on Monday 10th January, examinations scheduled for Tuesday 21st December will take place on Tuesday 11th January and examination scheduled for Wednesday 22nd December will take place on Wednesday 12th January.

Leaving Certificate Two, Leaving Certificate Applied Two and Third Year students will have class as normal from Monday 10th January 2011.

I would like to remind students and their parents/guardians, that here is only four weeks to the start of the Pre-Examinations, students must make a huge effort over these weeks so that they achieve their full potential in the examinations.

Wednesday 10th November 2010 – Parent / Teacher meeting for 3rd Years. Leaving Certificate Applied 2 and Leaving Certificate 2 from 1 PM to 3:30 PM

Wednesday 8th December – School closed to facilitate Staff Meeting

Thursday 9th December– DATS tests for all 3rd Years

Thursday 20th January 2011 - Parent / Teacher meeting for 1st years and Transition Years from 4:15PM to 6:45PM

Wednesday 26th January – Course option information night for 3rd Year parents.

Annual Variety Show – Ticket Details

Annual Variety and Talent Show

Hazelwood College Annual Variety Show takes place on the 26th and 27th March 2010. This year the variety show will be followed by a performance of excerpts from the show Dirty Dancing.

In the past this show has regularly sold out on the night, which has led to the disappointment of people being turned away. In an effort to prevent this from happening this year it has been decided to sell tickets in advance. It is expected that there will be no tickets available at the door on the night.

Tickets available at school reception from Monday 15th March
Adults €10
OAP/Children €5

Doors open each night from 7pm – Ticket Only.

Traffic Management Plan

Please note that a new traffic management plan has been put in place on around the grounds of the school. The introduction of this plan is due to the increased level of worry amongst staff and parents for the safety of students. The plan was drafted in consultation with the Staff, Board of Management and Parents Council of the school.

It was never intended in the original design of the school that parents would drive on the grounds of the school. The intention was parents would let their children out of the car in the drop off zone outside the gates and students would walk on the paths into the school and thus not meet any cars. Celtic Tiger Ireland has seen the drop off area in recent years become a car park for student cars forcing some parents to drive on the grounds. Due to a number of near misses lately it has become necessary to take remedial action.

For the remainder of the school year in an effort to improve student safety a one way system now exists on the school grounds from 8am to 4pm daily. All parents and staff are requested if driving on the grounds to travel in a clockwise direction. Entering via the gate on the left and leaving via the gate on the right. It should also be noted the area between the two gates is a recognised yellow box and it is a traffic offence to block, u-turn or stop in a yellow box.

In the event that this trial is not successfull other options may have to be looked into including the banning of all driving on the grounds by non staff members as per the original traffic management plan of the school.

We appreciate your help in resolving the traffic and safety issues.

Welcome First Years

Just under 100 new first years enrolled into Hazelwood College this year. The have been divided into four seperate class groups giving an excellent pupil teacher ratio.

Leaving Certificate Construction 2009

Below are the projects submitted by the Leaving Certificate Construction Studies class as part of their State Examinations 2009. Each project is accompanied with a book containing details of the design process, research and experiments undertaken by the students in designing and building their project.
